Patna. Bihar Rural Affairs Minister Jayant Raj has said that some changes will be brought in the maintenance policy of the roads for which preparations are going on. He said that earlier the maintenance was done through contractual practice. But now there will be departmental maintenance. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has instructed that after the departmental maintenance, the road will be stronger. We have good engineers who can take good care of the road. He said that contracting takes a long time, sometimes the contractors also run away. To ensure that the public gets good roads, the department itself will maintain it.
Jayant Raj said that there has been talk of laxity in the right work or maintenance by many contractors who build rural roads. Action has been taken in recent times by identifying such contractors and they have also been blacklisted.
The Rural Affairs Minister said that before the year 2005, there were three thousand to five thousand kilometers of roads in Bihar. Which has now increased to one lakh 20 thousand kilometers during the NDA rule. He said that earlier roads were made on the basis of population. Earlier, the road was built for 1,500 people. But now the work of road construction is done only on the population of 100 and 200.
He said that still the road has not been built in some places, for this survey work is going on. Eight thousand kilometers of roads are yet to be built. For this the department is preparing to take loan. Loan has been sought from BRICS. The road will be prepared as soon as the loan is received. Probably work will start on this by next financial year.
