Terrorist attacks can happen in South Korea during holidays: intelligence agency | Terrorist attacks may happen during next year's holiday season: Intelligence agency

Digital Desk, Seoul. South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) warned Monday that there could be potential terrorist attacks during the coming year’s holiday season, as terrorism in the country is increasingly becoming a de facto current threat. NIS said protests against the vaccine in Europe and other countries could turn violent or become the target of a terrorist attack and South Korea is not yet free from such threats, Yonhap news agency reported.

According to the agency, a total of 489 materials that incite or promote terrorism have been blocked since the Anti-Terrorism Act came into force in the country in 2016, and the number has been increasing recently. An official said several suspects have been traced to South Korea after funding foreign terrorist groups or inciting terrorist activities since 2010.

Vowing to intensify efforts to protect civilians and public safety, the official said, terrorism is fast becoming a clear and indeed existing threat.
